Now is the time to switch to public water

We are excited to offer you a unique opportunity to switch from well water to Indiana American Water, bringing numerous benefits to your home and community.

The Terre Town Connect Project, a partnership of Indiana American Water and the City of Terre Haute, aims to provide reliable and clean water service to Terre Town residents. This initiative will improve public health, safety, and overall quality of life by providing access to high-quality water, reducing reliance on private wells, and enhancing fire protection with new hydrants.

This is a limited-time opportunity with funding from the City of Terre Haute available to help cover connection costs. However, the majority of Terre Town households must sign up for the service in order to take advantage of these financial incentives and enjoy the benefits of reliable, high-quality public water.

Why make the switch?

Switching to utility water offers numerous advantages over well water in terms of safety, reliability, and quality.

Enhanced Water Quality

Consistent Treatment: The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) sets strict standards for over 90 contaminants in public water systems. Water utilities provide water that has been treated and tested to meet stringent safety standards, that meet or surpass state and federal water quality standards, minimizing risks from harmful bacteria, viruses, and contaminants. [1]

Better Taste and Odor: Utility water often tastes better and lacks the unpleasant odors sometimes associated with well water due to its comprehensive treatment processes.

Improved Health and Safety

Reliable Disinfection: Utility water supplies are regularly tested and treated with the most advanced technology to remove pathogens, reducing the risk of waterborne illnesses. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), private wells can be a source of contamination from surface runoff, septic systems, and agricultural activities. Without proper maintenance and regular testing, well water can harbor dangerous pathogens and chemicals. [2]

Fire Protection: Installation of mains in Terre Town will include installation of fire hydrants, which can significantly enhance fire safety in your community.

Lower Maintenance & Costs

Reduced Upkeep: Maintaining a private well can be costly and time-consuming. Well owners should regularly test and treat their water to ensure it remains safe. [2]

Avoid Major Repairs:
Well repairs or replacements can be very expensive. Switching to public water eliminates the need for such repairs.

Financial Benefits

Insurance Savings: Connecting to a public water supply can potentially lower your homeowner’s insurance premiums due to the improved fire protection.

Offset Treatment Costs: While well water might not come with a monthly bill, private well owners often face ongoing expenses for equipment, and water treatment processes.

Increased Property Value

Market Appeal: Homes with reliable, high-quality water supplies are often more attractive to potential buyers, potentially increasing your property’s value.

Realtor Insights: Realtors often note that the availability of public utilities positively impact home values.

  Convenience & Reliability

Continuous Supply: Utility water provides a continuous, reliable supply of water, reducing the risk of water shortages or interruptions common with wells.

Professional Management:
Your water supply will be managed by professionals.

Environmental Protection

Sustainable Use: According to American Water Works Association (AWWA) municipal water utilities are at the forefront of implementing innovative practices and technologies to protect water sources and promote conservation, ensuring long-term availability to the water they bring to your home. [3]

Legislative & Community Benefits
